2009 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

Ajay Ryerson, Wilsonville High School

"A creative mind which is consequently also an open mind, will never be satisfied by empty goals. My interest in art shall never be satisfied. I want to continue to push myself and my talent beyond what is comfortable. My goal then, is to alter the natural way of thinking for myself and others. I say others because unless I can communicate with others through my art, my art is meaningless. To become an effective artist would be the same as becoming an effective conversationalist. My conversations with the world as an industrial designer would be discussions of beauty and function, but also as an artist, I would communicate what language fails to: aesthetics.

I hate titles, namely specific titles. I say "I would like to pursue a career in industrial design," but would rather live a life free of limitation and full of art. My career would not just be a nine-to-five job, but rather a lifestyle that entails careful observation and innovative thinking. By denying the stronghold of the title "job" I would work freely without constraint. By liberation from constraint I would expand and thrive onall that is artistic. This is my goal: thrive and expand without settling."
