Congratulations to Matthew Shapiro. He is the 2010 recipient for the Oregon Art Education Association Scholarship Award.
This year US Bank generously donated $1000 for this scholarship award.
Oregon Art Education Association and US Bank are pleased to present this scholarship award. The OAEA scholarship was established in 1999, to be given to a high school senior in Oregon pursuing post high school art studies in an accredited Visual Arts or Arts Education program. Students submit an essay, portfolio of work and a teacher recommendation. Student's parent/ guardian or instructor must be a current member of NAEA/OAEA. This year many talented applicants applied. The jurors wanted to make sure to encourage each applicant to continue creating art and pursuing their goals.
This years jurors were Devon Simpson, Assistant Director of Admissions, Oregon College of Arts & Craft, Tom Unsicker, artist and retired art educator, Pamela Gonsalves, artist and high school art educator.
Juror comments, "Matt's work demonstrates the ability to successfully control and combine media into powerful, dynamic paintings and assemblage with mature, deep messages."
Matt says, "Art is what keeps me going everyday. No one can stop you from drawing". He plans to attend California College of Art and wishes to include a humongous thank you to his art teacher Shannon McBride of Lakeridge High School for always encouraging him.
